Creat Your Own Car

Well ahead of the 2007 launch of Fiat's new 500 minicar, the company has fired up a Fiat 500 minisite with the theme "500 wants you." Fiat promises that the site will be far more than just another advertising vehicle - the company wants to involve the public in the design and development of the little retro-runabout. According to Luca De Meo, Fiat Brand and Commercial Manager, "For the first time in the history of our company, and perhaps the motor industry as a whole, a car will be created with the public and for the public." Source: Autoblog.com It seems that the hype of social networks, social searching engines, and open source softwares has moved to the automobiles industry with the Fiat's social car design. Tags: , ,

TrendMicro to Enter the Admission Control Game

Trend Micro on Monday will introduce new versions of its VirusWall family of security appliances, designed to help network administrators make sure that the computers on their networks are secure. Called Network VirusWall Enforcer, the appliances will scan PCs and laptops that connect to the network to ensure that they have up-to-date security software and the latest Microsoft security patches. Source: Network World Network VirusWall Enforcer does not require an agent to be preinstalled on a device, which means you have full access control even for partners, contractors, and visitors. When a device does not meet security policy requirements, it is quarantined to a pre-defined virtual local area network (VLAN) for automatic remediation. Many vendors are comming out with their own versions of Admission Control, like Cisco's NAC, Juniper's Infranet Controller and even Microsoft's NAP. Aside from the whopping amounts of storage, the Flash Drive Max sports NAND flash memory, USB 2.0, 9MB/sec. read and 5MB/sec. write speeds and a write-protect lock. Marian Prokop has some suggestions, based on how she has been using her 1GB unit for the last couple of years. Tags: , ,

Manalaa.net is Better Than Google.com

The users who are redirected to my blogs from Manalaa.net are much better than those who are redirected from google.com or wikipedia.org. The point is that when a user come to your blog from some search engine, it is most of the time that he/she is searching for something, and your blog address just pops up there, even when what's in the blog is not what he/she is looking for. This is one of the search engine problems that they are trying to overcome by using social networks and tags etc. While on the other hand users who come here from manalaa.net, reddit, or any other blog aggregator, they are those who have some time to spend in reading, and looking for something interesting to read. That's why they spend some time in the blog, and may move between two or three different articles there, while those from search engine just get in and out in no time. You may notice that, when you see people spending more time in your blog in the days when you publish a new article there. While on the other hand the number of users doesn't increase much in such days. I.e. the quality of visitors increases but not their quantitiy. Tags: , ,

Disney Online and For Free

Walt Disney Co. plans to make TV shows such as "Desperate Houswives" and "Lost" available for free over the Internet in an attempt to bring in new advertising revenues, the Wall Street Journal said on Monday. Episodes of the ABC shows will contain commercial breaks that viewers will not be able to skip, which Disney hopes will turn the delivery of programs over the Web into a profit-generating business, the Journal said. The Journal reported that 10 advertisers have already signed up for the initiative, including Ford Motor Co., Procter & Gamble and Unilever. Source: Reuters, Internet News Tags: , , , ,

Loyalty Question

"There are Shiites in all these countries (of the region), significant percentages, and Shiites are mostly always loyal to Iran and not the countries where they live", President Mobarak said. So the Sunnis in Iraq must be loyal to KSA, the Turkuman there are supposed to be loyal to Turkey, and may be the Christians in Egypt have to be loyal to Greece, Russia, Serbia or any other country with Orthodox majority. Cross Platform Virus

Hackers have released a sample code for a virus that could infect both Linux and Windows PCs. The virus, which was given the double name Virus.Linux.Bi.a/ Virus.Win32.Bi.a, was reported Friday by security firm Kaspersky Lab. "The virus is written in assembler and is relatively simple," Kaspersky wrote in a posting to the company's Viruslist.com Web site. "However, it is interesting in that it is capable of infecting the different file formats used by Linux and Windows - ELF and PE format files respectively." The ELF (Executable and Linking Format) and PE (Portable Executable) file formats are used to format certain types of binary files in Linux and Windows, including the .exe and .dll files used in Windows. The virus appears to have no practical application, Kasperky said. "It's a classic proof-of-concept code, written to show that it is possible to create a cross-platform virus," Kaspersky said. "However, our experience shows that once proof-of-concept code is released, virus writers are usually quick to take the code, and adapt it for their own use." Security training organization The SANS Institute agreed with Kaspersky's assessment, saying that the software should come as a warning to Linux and Mac OS X users who may think their computers are "invulnerable" to virus threats. How BoingBoing is Changing the World

"Boingboing is one of the most popular blogs in the world... it's read by more people than most magazines. Day to day, though, it's easy to assume that most of the posts are not particularly earthshattering--particular the ones about earwax", Seth Godin How BoingBoing is Changing the World, by Erin Banister You know what, I've never visited that BoingBoing before :) Tags: , ,

Cisco Phases Out Its 1700, 2600 and 3700 Series Routers

Cisco is retiring three of its multi-service router platforms, including the 2600 - one of the most widely-deployed WAN products for enterprise branches and mid-size businesses. Cisco's end-of-life and end-of-sale notice for the 1700, 2600 and 3700 series, posted last week, says the company will stop selling the series on March 27, 2007. However, support for the platform will be phased out slowly, with service and support to end on March 25, 2012. While Cisco is the dominant vendor in enterprise and small-and-midsize-business WAN routing with more than 70% market share, it has seen a ramp-up in competition lately from Juniper, with the release of its SSG — an integrated Juniper WAN router and Netscreen firewall, Nortel's acquisition of enterprise router maker Tasman Networks last year, and Alcatel's recent launch of its OmniAccess WAN router series also attempts to dig into Cisco's vast enterprise WAN installed base. Alcacent

Alcatel and Lucent have reached a definitive agreement to merge, they said Sunday. The merger stands to create a networking giant with revenue of €21 billion ($25 billion), based on 2005 financial results, and a strong presence in each continent. The new company will be based in Paris and headed by Lucent's Russo. The board of directors will consist of Russo, Alcatel's Tchuruk, five other people from each company and two independent European directors. Source: Network World I think the merge is mainly for both of them to enter each other markets, Alcatel will be able to invade the US - Lucent's - market and vice versa. But on the other hand I think that they have an overlaping line of products some how, they both have DSLAMs, Enterprise Routers, etc. I am not very aware of their Telco products, however I think Alcatel is more into it with its mobile BSC's, Telephone switches, as well as the OmniPCX VoIP solution. Finally, what will be the name of the new company ... Alcacent, Lucatel, or what!? Tags: , ,

Cats Flu

Cats have been known to become infected with the H5N1 virus and lab experiments show they can give it to other cats, although nobody knows whether they can transmit it to people or poultry, the researchers say in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature. In areas where H5N1 has been found in poultry or wild birds, cats should be kept away from infected birds or their droppings, and cats suspected of such contacts or showing symptoms of infection should be quarantined and tested. Hey Chicks, BarbieOS is Out There :)

BarbieOS, based on Debian Linux, had been in private beta for more than six months prior to yesterday's public release. Initial reaction to the company's announcement has been mixed, as some analysts have claimed that the desktop Linuxmarket is already over-saturated given its current size, as other major players such as Lycoris Desktop/LX, Xandros Linux, and LindowsOS are already competing for the rather small percentage of home desktop users willing to try a non-Microsoft OS. Still, Mattel says it is confident of the potential of BarbieOS 1.0 to find a niche market of young girls under thirteen who are dissatisfied with current Microsoft offerings and are looking toward maybe asking mom and dad for a full-powered Linux laptop running BarbieOS this Christmas. Site: http://www.divisiontwo.com/articles/barbieOS.htm Cool, we are going to see more chicks into Linux soon. Tags: , ,

TV, PC, and Bluetooth

The world's largest electronics firms are reported to have opted to use Bluetooth wireless technology to send video between devices in the home. They will use the short-range radio system to link TVs, video players and computers. Source: BBC News This will be really cool, I've been looking for some way to display the movies on my laptop on the TV screen. I believe there are appliances that use IEEE 802.11 WiFi technology to do so now a days. But what I was looking for is some connector to connect the VGA output of my PC to that Vidio Input (I think it is called S.Video) of the TV. Tags: , ,

We're similar so I can see what he's trying to do, there's no better advisor."
