Insulting Religions

For the first time in Egypt, a blogger has been trialled and put to jail for what he wrote in his own blog.
An Alexandria court convicted an Egyptian blogger on Thursday for insulting both *religions* and the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and sentenced him to four years in jail over his writings on the Internet.
Abdel Karim Suleiman, a 22-year-old former law student who has been in custody since November, was the first blogger to stand trial in Egypt for his Internet writings. He was convicted in connection with eight articles he wrote since 2004.

I guess Egypt is the only country in the whole world that has a law against insulting religions, as well as insulting its president. The future of the Egyptian blogosphere is really foggy now, especially for those political blogs.

El-Akhbar XSS

My friend Zeinobia noticed that El-Akhbar newspaper's website (http://www.elakhbar.org.eg) was hacked by some Turkish hackers today.

So, I wrote the newspaper's web address in the browser, and I was then redirected to the Turkish hackers site (http://www.cyber-protest.org/HACKED/uyari.php).

I thought it was a DNS Cache Poisoning at the beginning, but I used a tool - Internet Explored plugin - called HttpWatch in order to see the various request between my browser and the server. Which showed me that when I accessed "http://www.elakhbar.org.eg/", I was then redirected to "http://elakhbar.org.eg/service/home/", which redirected me to the hackers page after that. So after looking at "http://elakhbar.org.eg/service/home/" page source, I found the following HTML code.

Click on the code to enlarge
So, most probably, the newspaper had some poll on their site, and it seems that the site was vulnerable to Cross Site Scripting (XSS). And the hacker used this to insert some script that redirects the users to their page using the poll form.

Update: El-Akhbar have fixed it now.

Pairing Nokia Bluetooth Headset with My Laptop

I was listening to Dido when I decided to use my Nokia Bluetooth Headset instead of the PC speakers. So here you are the procedures in case you wanna do the same thing. In fact this will be more useful if you are going to use it with Skype or Google Talk.

First of all, make your headset ready for pairing by pressing the answer/end key and the volume up (+) key at the same time over 5 seconds until the blue indicator light lights up. Now go to your PC, and click on the bluetooth icon - a blue circle with the letter 'B' written there - in the taskbar. The click on the "New Connection" button and let your PC find the headset. It will then ask you for a pin code which is "0000". Now to activate the connection between the two devices, just click on the answer/end key in the headset.

By the way, I found in Nokia site that you can download Nokia Tune played with Oriental Instruments here.

Zlango

Zlango is a new Web2.0 service, where you write messages in icons instead of words. You can then embed such messages in your blog, or send them to one of your friends by email. Just like many other Web2.0 services, it's a bit childish, but I am sure a lot of people are going to like it.

Pay What You Want Cafe

Ervin Peretz, a 37 year old Google developer and sparetime pokerbot creator, along with Susan Allsup opened a special kind of cafe in Kirkland. According to a Seattle Times report, when you’re at the “Terra Bite Lounge,” you pay whatever you feel like: from nothing at all to 40 bucks or whatever else you want to put into the metal lock box.
Source: Outer Court dot Com

What do you think about such idea? Frankly, will you pay anything if you go there? Will the quantity of money you pay there depend on your company there, and whether you wanna show off or so?

WTF is WTF

Technorati has released a new service called WTF. Technorati's "WTF" stands for "Where's The Fire", and not "What the F*ck". The new service is some how similar to Digg, you post something there people vote for it, the more votes your post gets, the higher rank it is given in their aggregator. The main difference between Technorati's WTF and Digg, is that Technorati is cool, and Digg is an a$$.
"Ever wonder why something is sooooo popular? Why are the hot topics hot? WTFs explain the buzz around people, things, and events. Who writes these WTFs? You do! Anyone can write one on any topic, and everyone can vote for the best explanations. The ones with the most votes rise up and the dreck sinks. Let millions of other people benefit from your genius"
http://www.technorati.com/wtf
WTF's are given a "Topic" (keyword), "Title", and a "Description" where you write your whole story.

I created a WTF there about dSLR's, if you'd like to vote for it.

Guess who has visited my blog today!? Darren Rowse of ProBlogger and Digital-Photography-School. Seems that he reached my blog through the dSLR WTF. By the way, for those who suffer from low traffic in their blogs, I think they'd better add ProBlogger to their Feed Readers.
